Our Process

To assess the disability accommodation services needed, geographical location is determined in consultation with our clients and their families.

We limit the number of co-residents to a maximum of three clients in order to create a homely and caring environment, and provide supported, single accommodation options if appropriate to your circumstances.

We listen to each client’s voice and preferences in determining disability support worker/staff selection and rostering in their home.

Your Partner for The Future

Understanding and navigating the NDIS can be overwhelming and tricky. That’s why our experienced staff are here to help you and your family with your NDIS plan for disability accommodation services. Achieve your goals and get the most out of your funding with our help!

While there is no definitive ‘long term disability accommodation services’ available from the NDIS, NDIS participants do have access to temporary transitional housing while they are waiting to be confirmed for a longer term, or permanent housing solution. This is known as mid term accommodation. For example, Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA), is an example of a long term housing solution. If you have SDA funding in your plan and a tenancy offer but it’s not available yet, you will be temporarily set up in mid term accommodation. Your ‘long term housing solution is a place you will love for the foreseeable future for an extended period of time.

If you have a disability and are unable to live in your current home safely until home modifications are complete, you may be eligible to apply for Medium Term Accommodation.

To apply for a longer term housing solution, your first step is to obtain a housing assessment report. Your support coordinator or occupational therapist will do a comprehensive assessment to assess whether you’re eligible for funding, and whether medium term accommodation is suitable for your disability.

As well as your housing assessment report, it’s ideal to obtain supporting documentation such as:

  • A statement of support from a health provider
  • A Housing Plan to show that longer term housing is reasonable and necessary to improve your quality of living. This is also done by your Support Coordinator
  • Proof that the following accommodation will help your social and work life
  • Require somewhere to stay because of your disability support needs
  • Have a long term housing solution confirmed in the foreseeable future

It’s important to note that the NDIS can only fund Medium Term Accommodation if you need it because of your disability, and require a temporary place to live as you wait for your disability supports. As part of the application process, the NDIS will look into your disability specific barriers which prevent you from pursuing your home and living goals at the time, and how a longer housing solution will address your disability support needs in the foreseeable future.

You might be eligible for Medium Term Accommodation if you meet the following criteria. You may be eligible for Medium Term Accommodation if you:

  • Require somewhere to stay because of your disability support needs
  • Have a long term housing solution confirmed in the foreseeable future
  • Are unable to move into your housing solution because you are waiting for your disability-related supports to be ready

In order to be approved for funding for Medium Term Accomodation, NDIS participants who require temporary transitional housing need to present proof to indicate their eligibility and evidence that their long term housing solution is confirmed. Without physical proof, the NDIS will be unable to fund accommodation.

Some proof NDIS participants can provide include:

  • Tenancy agreement offer from a Specialist Disability Accommodation provider. While the property may not be available yet, the provider has offered them a vacancy. You will need to know an estimated moving date.
  • Signed letter from your service provider confirming an offer of accommodation and support. Written proof of an estimated date of when you can move into your long term housing solution and receive the supports you require.
  • Evidence of approved modifications to your home or rental property, including an estimated date of completion.

Usually, Medium Term Accommodation lasts for three months (90 days). Funding however, only covers the accommodation cost of where you stay and doesn’t include day-to-day living costs such as food or electricity.

Our dedicated team at Bridges Alliance is determined to help you in living as independently as you can. We work with you every step of the way to get you closer to finding the best accommodation to achieve your NDIS goals.

If we can’t find you the right vacancy now, we’ll work together with medium term accommodation providers in your journey to finding you the home that’s right for your needs. Especially during this transitional period, you need to make sure you feel safe and at home. Even when you are at your most vulnerable, our qualified team ensures you have everything you need and all your disability supports in place by the time you move into your long term housing solution.
