FAQs

NDIS respite care or short-term accommodation (STA)  provides short-term relief for NDIS clients. It can be arranged for an afternoon, for several days or weeks. Respite care is designed to give clients and their carers a break, and let another trained and qualified individual provide the support and care.

Respite care is funded by the NDIS based on your needs and eligibility. Your NDIS funding is determined based on the type of care required and the length of time involved. Respite care is a part of your NDIS plan core funding.

Many NDIS providers in Australia can provide formal and informal respite care options for your child, many with flexible hours and activities. Depending on the age of your child and their disability, respite care might be fruitful options for you and your child. Regardless of what option you go for, they must be eligible for the NDIS in order to get funding to help with respite care costs. Talk to your NDIS provider about your child’s and family’s needs to see if you are eligible for subsidised respite care.

Bridges Alliance is one of the few registered NDIS service providers to offer voluntary out-of-home care (VOOHC), which is dedicated short and long-term accommodation services for individuals under 18 years of age. Explore our services to find out more.

In Australia, the standard rate for respite care is charged at a fixed fee per day. Rates depend on the NDIS provider and tailored activity programs, refreshments and meals are inclusive to cost. For overnight accommodation, you can be charged up to $123.95 a night. Bridges Alliance follows the current NDIS Price Guide pricing for all respite services

Eligible NDIS clients are entitled to 63 days of NDIS respite care in a financial year. The length of time you spend in respite is deducted from your NDIS plan core funding. The length of time a client spends in respite in a service provider’s care is deducted from your respite care allowance.

Respite care is based on the needs and support of the client. If you are not funded for respite care in your NDIS plan your caregiver or support coordinator should consider asking for a review of yourNDIS plan; explaining the need for a break in relation to your goals and the importance of a break in supporting continued care by your carer. You will be required to attend a face-to-face assessment to determine your eligibility. The assessor will take into account what is reasonable to expect from families, carers, informal networks and the community. If eligible, the assessor can work with you and your carer to find a suitable service provider for temporary respite.

Offering its stunning respite care locations for residents of all ages, Bridges Alliance is sensitive to the physically exhausting hardships of caring for family members and loved ones with a disability. We gives caregivers the much-needed chance to take a break and recharge, while giving our clients the chance to enjoy their personal space in a new environment and experience new activities, and socialise.
